If I sign up can I go back to the old email client?

No, but the help desk will address any questions or concerns you might have.

Will I automatically get a MyApps account?

New students starting Fall 2009 will autmaticly get a MyApogle Apps. Current students will have the option to self register until October 2009. Starting November 2009 every student will be required to move to Google Apps.

If I already have a Gmail account, can I still sign up?

Yes! MYAPPS is a separate acccount that allows you to use Google email with your @georgiasouthern.edu address. MYAPPS provides you with the benefits of Gmail and without the ads.

What browsers can be used with MYAPPS?

The recommended browsers for using MYAPPS are Firefox or Internet Explorer 7. This will ensure the usability of Google’s latest features. For more information on browser support, clock here.

Note:Using Safari to access MYAPPS will create minor issues. For instance, you won’t see the Quick Contacts box in the left sidebar when viewing your email.

Can I log in using Google’ site?

No. Because MYAPPS uses the Google Apps for Education software suite, something that Google offers to educational institutions and non-profit organizations. For account customization and security reasons, you must login through Georgia Southern.

Why doesn’t my MYAPPS account have the same applications as my personal account?

Google chooses which applications to include in the Google Apps for Education software suite.

What if I want to use an application not available using my MYAPPS account?

Personal Gmail accounts can be created for free here. This will give you access to the standard applications of personal accounts.

What is Gmail?

Google Mail (Gmail) is Google’s online mail application, which provides its users with more than 6 gigabytes of storage, integrated chat, phishing protection and more.

Will I keep my @georgiasouthern.edu email address?

Yes, all sent and received email to and from your current @georgiasouthern.edu address will be accessed through MYAPPS.

What will happen to my old email?

You can still access the old email through My.GeorgiaSouthern. However new email will be sent to the gmail service. The student will be responsible for migrating his/her own email.

Can I use my MYAPPS email with other email programs?

Absolutely. You can use POP, IMAP and mobile email programs with your MYAPPS email.

How do I deal with spam?

In addition to Georgia Southern’s spam filtering, Google’s Gmail has its own anti-spam software.

How migrate my old email and contacts from MiraPoint?

Exporting contacts out of Mirapoint:

1. Log into Mirapoint.
2. Choose Contacts on the left hand menu.
3. Click on the Tools drop-down menu arrow.
4. Click Import/Export. (The lower half of the displayed screen shows the Export options.)
5. Use the drop-down menu beside Export From Category: to chose what contacts to export.
6. Use the drop-down menu beside File Type: to chose the download file type to create.
7. Click Export Now to save the contacts export file to your pc

Import contacts in MyApps

1. Log into My.GeorgiaSouthern.
2. Click on MyApps/li>
3. Click on contacts.
4. Click Import(The top right of the screen.)
5. Browse for the file you would like to import.
6. Click import

1. Log into Mirapoint.
2. Open up the target message.
3. Click on Forward.
4. Enter email address on To: line.
5. Press Send.

How will it take for new email to show up in MyAPPS?

After you convert your account to MyAPPS it can take up to one hour before you will receive new email to your MyAPPS account..

How do I share documents with students or anybody else with a MYAPPS account?

You can share documents with anyone who has a Gmail account. Just list the user’s Gmail address in the “Share This Document” screen. This will only work for people who have also converted to MYAPPS.
